first week of practice - overview

Dear HCS lax family,

I wanted to give you the heads up on our first week of practice schedule Feb 13th.  What an exciting time to begin this new season.  We have very high expectations and are anxious to get it rolling.  It will be an extra busy week since we are going to be doing player tryout/evaluations that week to help determine their status on V or JV.  Note:  we had planned on doing evaluations on Sat the 18th but because of the holiday schedule we decided to move them up to earlier during that week.  Hence the extra practice/evaluation times.

Our schedule for that week will be
Monday 13th:  4:45 preparations with seniors, practice opens at 5PM until 6:45 or so  (note: all other Mondays will be 5-6:30 PM)
Tuesday 14th: 6-7:30 AM practice(normal practice time except game days).  3:30 to 6:30 PM or so for player evaluations (will need parent volunteers that Dave Richter is recruiting)
Wednesday 15th:  3:30 to 5:30 PM  Practice and evaluations (normal practice time)
Thursday 16th: 3:30 to 5 PM remaining evaluation stations, 5 to 6:30 PM (Normal practice time) (note, if player has completed evaluations then they will not need to be there from 3:30 to 5 PM, only the regular practice time)
Friday 17th: 6 AM to 7:30 AM (normal practice time)

All players, even winter sports players are expected to find a time to get these evaluations done.   We need to be contacted if you are not able to be there some time on Tuesday from the 3:30 to 6:30 window in order to make alternative arrangements.  Will probably take a couple of hours to get through all of the stations.

We will not plan on practicing on Sat, Sun, or Monday.

Practice will then again resume on Tuesday AM Feb 21st from 6-7:30.

Most of the games scheduled are on the IHSLA web site under Heritage Christian and check our schedule.  The first game is March 3rd and we will need to be ready for that.

Go Eagles!

Trevor Black
Sam Kane
Josh Kesner
Pierson Furnish
Adam Hinkle
Joel Nishida
Chris Pinyot
Tyler Gerig
Aaron Russell
Wyatt Spencer
Samuel Storey
Henry Teeter

These are players who turned in their records and have met or are very close to having met the preseason recommended 3 conditioning, 3 lifting, and 2 stick sessions per week.  Those who have not please send in your records, especially if you want to be considered for a Rock Award.  If you think you qualify then please resubmit your records via email for consideration (your submission may have been misplaced).

Example of a Record: Player name:
Week one Conditioning: 3x, Lifting 3x, Sticks 2x
Wk 2  Condit 3x, lift 3x, sticks 2 x
wk 3 condit 4 x, lift 3 x, stick 3 x

As a reminder, guidelines for Hoffacker type conditioning, Hoffacker lifting, and wall ball sticks, that can be done in a gym or at home in order to meet our criteria if one absolutely can not do our team preseason sessions have been listed at our web site and in previous emails and can also be counted for credit.  Champions get it done!  Don't forget that you are not just doing this for yourself but also for your teammates and the Lord.  Can they count on you?

Gold Eagle and Silver Eagle club awards can be earned this year.  At the time of evaluations we will test various skills.  Our current criteria which may be added to or modified by the time of evaluations in February are:

Happy hunting.

  3.  Each player is expected to prepare for the season with 3 lifting and 3 conditioning sessions per week and we would like everyone to attend the stick sessions on Thurs and Friday this week unless in a winter sport.
  4.  Again, we will collect records for the workout from the players for weeks 4 - 6 at the end of week 6.

We appreciate all the players that have shown dedication to be prepared to be successful.  We are seeing good improvement and are pleased with the progress.

1/20/12 Letter from Coach Pittman

Dear Eagles,

Please read this in detail for important lacrosse information and schedule.

Sunday. Meeting of Seniors with Coach Pittman 2-4 PM

Note. We are now offering more lifting opportunities that are more convenient for the players so that they can more easily meet our preseason criteria of 3 lifting sessions per week. The lifting sessions with the football coach and team are still available on Monday and Weds from 3:30 to 4:30. (Also if a player attends both of those sessions that will also count for one of the 3 conditioning sessions.) The new times that are available are Tues and Thursday after Hoffacker conditioning from 4:30 to 5:00. We will still make the Thursday and Friday morning sessions available for lifting but would prefer that the players lift at the other times and take full advantage of the stick sessions.

Again conditioning is available on Monday (sometimes combined with the football lifting sessions) Tuesday, and Thursday. Players can do conditioning on their own for which they will receive credit but will need to follow the Hoffacker guideline at minimum which I will send out shortly. That can be done for those that are unable to make the team sessions. If possible it would be preferred to work out with the team but not absolutely necessary.

Stick sessions: Next week (wk 4) we will have stick sessions available on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.in auxilary gym 6:30 to 7:30 AM. We will primarily working with offense on Monday and Wed and Defense on Thursday and Friday. We are asking players to attend at least 2 sessions per week however anyone is welcome to come to as many as they want and all are welcome at any of the sessions (All players play offense and defense at various times so they need to understand it well). Week 5 and 6 will have stick sessions only on Thursday and Friday. Be sure to bring indoor and outdoor gear to the morning sessions because if the weather cooperates we'll go outside. (tennis shoes and cleats, possible layered clothing for outside) We will get out on the full field ASAP.

We will give awards to those players who faithfully meet our 3 conditioning and lifting session criteria and who attend 2 stick sessions. We need players to turn in their records now for the first 3 weeks. All are expected to report this to us. Just give the dates of attendance or of individual workouts. Do not need details on amount lifted. (Note: the first week of Jan the only requirement was Hoffacker type workout on Tues and Thurs.) Just a simple email response to this will be sufficient for that report and will allow the player to be considered for the award/recognition.

Reminder that the season opens Feb 13th. Our schedule has been published. Evaluations will take place on Febr 18th so we will need a number of volunteers to help with our various stations. We will have awards for those that meet our physical and skills criteria of the Golden Eagle Club and the Silver Eagle club. We will let you know what those criteria are but be aware that it will be challenging to be a member of either club.

There has been a modification of our coaching staff.
Varsity Head Coach: Pittman
Varsity Offensive Coordinator: Chey West
Varsity Defensive Coordinator: Steve Kenny
Defense and Specialty Coordinator: Tom Flynn

Assistant Head Coach and Head JV Coach: Christopher Teeter
JV assistant Coach: Brent Spencer
JV assistant Coach: Dan Sikes

Team Chaplain: Jeff Pinyot
Team special assistant: Dave Richter
Team Film and Technology Specialist: Dr. Mitch Harris

Thanks so much to this staff for all they do and their commitment. Thanks also to Jennifer Harris and Lois Teeter for all their work with the parent support committee.
We are off to a great start to a great season. We appreciate all of the players coming to the interview sessions. It is a privilege to meet these fine young men and we are looking forward to being a part of their successful season.

Ok Week 4 schedule summary again
This Sunday Coach Pittman meets with seniors from 2-4
Monday 6:30 AM Sticks, 3:30 lifting/ 1/2 conditioning session w/ football coach and Kyle Ray (Hoffacker)
Tues 3:30 Hoffacker 4:30-5 Lifting
Weds 6:30 AM Sticks 3:30 Same as Monday
Thurs 6:30 AM Sticks 3:30 Same as Tues
Friday 6:30 AM Sticks

(Note: Seniors may call some scrimmage sessions if weather permits so keep your ear to the ground on that)

We appreciate those players who have been faithfully attending these sessions and preparing for the season. We had a very good session this morning and the players are looking good. Stick skills are beginning to sharpen up already and the players are getting their shooting strings fine tuned.

Each player will need at least 2 lax heads tuned and ready to go beginning Feb 13th. Again the backup needs to be ready to go because of certain breakage potential. Ideally they should have 2 heads and 2 shafts.

Everything is in place to be champions so let's do it well for your teammates and for God's Glory.
We, not me!
Him, not us!

Additional morning opportunities

Hi Lacrosse community -

In addition to 6:30a - 7:30a on Thursdays and Fridays for the next four weeks, we also have 3 extra days of Aux Gym availability over the next two weeks.  We don't expect players to attend any more sessions, rather this gives flexibility in getting to two mornings and creates a little elbow room..

The additional days are this Wednesday and next Monday and Wednesday.

With these bonus days, we are trying to add a little "platooning" of skills too.  This Wednesday, the 18th, and next Thursday, the 26th, we'd like just Poles and Goalies in the Aux Gym.

Those using the morning hour to complete some of their lifting can use any of these mornings too.  ... that's in addition to the weight room being open on Mondays and Wednesdays after school and Tuesdays and Thursdays after Hoffacker.
